Tips for using E-Bee in the classroom
Teaching with The Fresno Bee in the classroom opens the world to students. It helps them understand the relevancy of their lessons as they apply to real life. Students can use E-Bee independently, with partners or in groups. The following are a few tips to help you E-Bee in your classroom:
- Newspapers almost always offer something of interest to everyone. Give your students a few minutes to look over E-Bee and discover what interests them.
- Use the Table of Contents on E-Bee to help students understand the layout of The Fresno Bee. Review each section with them, noting the various letter designations, page numbers and how stories may “jump” or continue on another page in the section. Sections may not always be in alphabetical order due to the way they run on the press.
- Scavenger hunts are fun and educational. Create a list of things for students to find in E-Bee such as “a story with the mayor’s name in it” or “an advertisement for a restaurant.” The possibilities are endless.

For younger students
- Give younger students only one section at a time to work with.
- Organize the sections so they are easy to work with. Print out pages from E-Bee and staple them along the left side to make a “book” that is easier to handle.
